Fiddlesticks Workshops

All our workshops are held at the shop in Honiton starting at 10:00 and generally finishing around 16:00 including a light lunch served around 12:30 and drinks.

These workshops will help you extend your knitting skills and use your own creativity to make a variety of beautiful and original knitted projects. You will learn new techniques and skills and be able to design and knit with confidence.

Each of the workshops will teach you about a single subject in a day and you will work on a small project which you can complete during the workshop and take home. These projects will make lovely gifts. You can combine skills learnt on different workshops so that, for example, you can apply your two colour knitting skills to making felted bags and purses, or felting to making knitted flowers.

Your workshop fee includes lunch and all patterns, instructions and notes and some materials will be provided. You are required to bring your own knitting needles. Alternatively, needles can be purchased at the workshop if you wish.

Professional Finishing Workshop

Tutor: Clair Crompton

Give you knitting that professional look.

Presentation is everything, particularly for knitted projects that take hours from cast on to bind off to complete. The thrill of finishing quickly dissipates when you realize you have to put your project together. Finishing a knitted piece is an entirely other skill from knitting, and many knitters avoid knitting patterns that require it.

PROFESSIONAL FINISHING TECHNIQUES

It is often the finishing details that make the difference to a garment and this workshop will show you techniques to make sure your garment has a professional finish. You will learn how easy it is to sew up all your unfinished projects using mattress stitch.

Topics include: How to sew in ends neatly, blocking and pressing pieces, shaping that makes sewing up easier to do, picking up stitches evenly for a neckband or button band, making neat buttonholes, sewing on borders, and setting in sleeves.

You will need: make four identical samples of stocking stitch to measure 10cm x 10cm (4in x 4in) using a smooth aran or chunky yarn. If you usually work the edge stitches differently (slipping or knitting on every row), please knit or purl them the same as the rest of the row. Do not press or steam any of the samples as we will be doing that in the workshop.

Bring plenty of your yarn for knitting and sewing up, knitting needles appropriate size for the yarn, a sewing up needle, and scissors.

You can also bring along an unfinished project for help and advice.

There are still places on the Monday 16th April 10:00 to 16:00 including light lunch and refreshments
