Cornish organic

Cornish organic

Cornish Organic wools are 100% organic, both produced and spun organically with the Soil Association certification at every stage.

The wool is sourced from local farmers and the spun wool is supplied, with minimal impact on the environment. All the farmers are Soil Association accredited or are certified with Organic Farmers & Growers Ltd (OF&G) and are dedicated to the welfare of their animals. The wool is spun at the only Soil Association accredited spinning mill in the country which is based in Launceston, near Bodmin, in Cornwall. This means that the wool is organically farmed, scoured and spun and has "Made In Cornwall" status. The company, 'Cornish Organic Wool' has also been licenced by the Soil Association. Licence No: DK 17262

The wool is spun to standard UK DK, 4 ply, Aran, and Chunky weights which means you can use it for all your favourite patterns.

The Sirdar name was adopted in the early years, being chosen to reflect the aura of Lord Kitchener’s appointment as Sirdar or leader of the Egyptian army. It was in the 1930’s that the name was used to brand the company’s range of hand knit yarns which were sold exclusively through retailers.

UK Alpaca

UK Alpaca

Alpaca wool / fibre is highly prized and selective breeding by the ancient Incas succeeded in achieving extremely fine fibre products. The aim of modern breeding strategies is to reproduce the fineness and density of fleeces which are in demand worldwide.

Alpaca fibre is exceptionally fine, warm and lustrous, with a very soft feel although the fibre is extremely durable, second only in strength to silk and comes in 22 natural shades and colours. The number of scales on individual fibres is considerably reduced compared to sheep's wool and this helps to explain why wool allergic people do not have the same reaction to Alpaca.

The fibre produced from the fleece of the baby Alpaca is the finest of all and is highly sought after.
